About Ayurveda & Naturopathy

The philosophy of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the traditional system of healing which originated in India thousands of years ago and is of the oldest and most holistic method of treatment in the Universe. Ayurveda or the science of life ('ayur' means life and 'veda' means knowledge or science) helps people to lead a healthy and well- balanced life. It deals with the root cause rather than the symptoms of the illness. This system of treatment helps to reconstitute the natural balance of the constituents of the body, mind and soul through systematic daily regimen including yogic exercises and through medication mainly based on herbs. Herbal treatment goes through a number of factors including emotional and spiritual aspects of the patients. The world Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people i.e. 80 percent of the world population, presently use herbal medicine for some aspect of primary healthcare.

Ayurveda defines a human being as an assembly of the 'panchamahabhoota' plus 'chaithanya'. According to the ancient Indian Philosophy, the Universe is composed of five basic elemenst or panchabhutas: prithvi (earth) , Jal (Water), Agni (fire), Vayu (air), and Akash (ether). The Pancha Bhutas are represented in the human body as three Doshas (vata, pitta, kapha), seven Dhatus (Rasa, Rakta, Masma, Meda, Asthi, Majja, Shukra/Artav) and three Malas (mutra, shakrit, sweda). To be healthy, equilibrium of three doshas, seven dhatus and three malas is essential. This system of medicine is very close to nature that it gives Ayurveda superiority over the other healing systems. Perhaps that is the main reason that has made Ayurveda the longest unbroken medical tradition in the world today.

About Naturopathy

Naturopathy is a system of therapies and treatment which relies exclusively on natural remedies, such as sunlight, air, water, supplemented with diet and various types of massage. It is based on the belief that the body is self-healing instrument. The body will repair itself and recover from illness spontaneously if it is in a healthy environment. Naturopaths have many remedies and recommendations for creating a healthy environment so the body can spontaneously heal itself. Naturopathy is replete with such terms as "balance" and "harmony" and "energy". It is often rooted in mysticism and a metaphysical belief in vitality. Naturopaths assume that many diseases including cancer are caused by faulty immune system. Naturopaths also promote the idea that the mind can be used to enhance the immune system and thereby improve one's health.
